Rambling Friday Morning

Since I committed to blogging every day , I thought now, being a quiet Friday morning to bring up some things that are on my sleepy, sometimes random brain.

1) Yahoo picked up on an article from The Boston Herald where Bill Cowher (former Pittsburgh Steeler coach) implied that someone is going to hurt Tom Brady if the Patriots insist on continuing to run up scores on other football teams. I take issue with that statement. First of all after reading the Yahoo blurb on the article, I noticed 18729 comments regarding this article such as: "Deserves it! Cheap classless boston scum!""good will teach them a lesson," "break his legs." Yikes? There were plenty of posters supporting the Patriots, but again Yikes? I am not going to pretend I am not biased, being from New England, so take this with a HUGE grain of salt....Aren't we supposed to be scoring touchdowns in professional football? Isn't that what they are getting paid to do. When Vrabel recovers a fumble and runs it in for a touchdown, should he be giving it back to the other team for a "do over?" Is it the Patriots job to keep themselves from scoring touchdowns? Or isn't that the opponents job? Wouldn't it be more insulting to the opposition for the winning team to run down the clock so they won't feel badly about the score? Who knows?

2) I read an article on birth order on CNN taken from Parenting Magazine.

Story Highlights

  • Birth order's role debated; recent study suggested higher IQs for firstborns

  • Middle kids are said to be great negotiators and peacemakers,
  • Youngest kids may suffer from assumptions that they're spoiled, stubborn
Since I only have 2 kids, its hard to say at this point if birth order has a role in their lives. I can't imagine that it does bear some weight. From my own personal experience being the middle child of 3.
P-oldest brother, smart and a leader.

Me (~T) -middle child, very very very much the peacemaker

C-younger brother, spoiled, spoiled, spoiled.

3) I have a recipe you need to try... do this, you will be a hero at your fall parties......

Apple dip

INGREDIENTS
16 individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
1/4 cup water
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1/2 cup brown sugar

DIRECTIONS
In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, or in the microwave, melt caramels with water, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. In a medium bowl, cream together cream cheese and sugar. Fold in caramel mixture. Serve immediately.

4) Fabulous news on the homefront. The hubster has given me permission or as I call it a get out of jail free card to accost, grab, grope or whatever to my latest crush

Mike Lowell

5) "Betch"
I am a You Tube addict at times. I found a really funny video from a local MA person who now has a cult following. Warning, the video has the "f" word. But I think its really really funny.

I Just Can't Resist--Britney, Vanessa Hudgens and Phil Simms

Oh my word....

What do Britney, Vanessa Hudgens and Phil Simms have in common? Nothing, just something I want to blog about this morning....

(that backup dancer to the right looks as confused as I was)

First off, Britney Spears... what can I say. I thought to myself, "this is either going to be an opportunity for the comeback of all time or a train wreck..." Unfortunately it was the latter. I am not a huge Britney fan, but am a fan of these train wrecks that seem to be happening over and over in twenty something pop culture bracket. She looked about as uncomfortable performing as I felt watching it. She looked like a tired stripper. Does she not have a good manager or publicist or even a friend who could have told her..."hey this isn't a good idea?" Don't we all have one of those friends who can say to us "Trish, those lime green crocs make you look like an idiot" or "you may want to re-think wearing leggings now that you are in your late 30's"?

Secondly, Vanessa Hudgens.... For those of us who have tween children, High School Musical 2 has become a staple in the household. A nice squeaky clean movie that has been watched in my house at least 10 times since its premier last month. And now, we have nude photos of Miss Hudgens all over the internet....say it isn't so Gabriella?

Kudos for joining the 20something train wreck team.... Just kidding. What do I think? I think it was a very timely and calculated move to get out of a Disney contract. Ready to move on to bigger and better things. She apologized....I will move on. But I am happy to note that the painful brazilian waxes seem to be on the way out.... time to grow the landing strips back in ladies.

Lasty

The Patriots...way to go on their first win of the season. But let me tell you, I am sick to death of Phil Simms and his blatent negativity against the Patriots, in particular, Tom Brady. Whenever CBS is broadcasting a game, I get to hear this goofball making negative remarks about the Pats. I understand that no one likes a DYNASTY and I am sure that there are folks out there ready for Tom Brady and Bill Belichick to fall, but come on...the Patriots are AWESOME.

Couldn't ya just bite him.....

Random thoughts on a Weds....

Woke up with a lovely head cold. Its 92 degrees with high humidity which is making the situation challenging.......blech

So now that I have doped myself up on cold medication so I can breathe slightly, here are my random thoughts of the day.

I Love Spongebob for the following reasons:

1) He is honest

2) He is a loyal friend

3) He is positive

4) He loves his job

5) He is in Wikipedia

6) Snappy dresser

7) He likes to swear

8) Masterful cook

9) Proud Pet owner

10)Good driver (he can drive blindfolded)

Recommendation of the day:
I am trying to drop some pounds..... Lean Cuisine chicken, spinach and mushroom Panini...very nice... (panini is in wikipedia too....love love love wikipedia....)

Quote/Phrase of the day....
One of my co-workers noticed another co-worker acting flirty. He described this act as "feeling yummy"..... "Look at Grace, she is feeling yummy." He didn't mean it in an outwardly sexual way. He was saying that Grace was feeling good about herself, was relaxed and was flirting...feeling yummy......I LOVE IT. I am going to use this phrase often....

Strange new act of courage:
I am attempting to be healthier in general....I am not a big fruit or veggie eater, but I am trying to improve. A friend recommended eating fruit BEFORE my meals to help digestion etc.... if you eat fruit during or after, it sits too long in your stomach and ferments....wowsa.

GO REDSOX

PS

I AM READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL. The hubster and kiddies went to Patriots training camp. My boyfriend Tom Brady below...

Fantasy Time

I was helping my husband find his High School Yearbook the other day. I came across a box of photos. I am not a scrapbooking person, I can barely find time to get my photos in frames or in an album...thus the box. I looked through the box and before I knew it, an hour had passed. The contents were pretty random (clipping from my friend's wedding announcement, prom picture, pictures of my belly when I was pregnant). It got me thinking:

If you could go back for 1 day (with the knowledge you have now) and not alter the course of your life what would you do? (ex: go back to my wedding day, birth of my baby, high school)

I will post a poll as well

Notes from the Minivan

This is my first post...bear with me.

About me:
I am a mom and a wife, barely hanging on to my thirties (as my husband Mike of 11 years often likes to remind me). I have 2 daughters Cat (9) and Cal (6).

I can't believe I have 2 girls who are so different than one another...I thought I did everything the same....they crack me up. I am very far from perfect...so be careful of emulating anything you may see on this blog. I drive a minivan that I have grown to hate while listening to alternative rock in an attempt to regain my youth (today it was The Smiths-a common thread you will see in my blogs). I sneak out at work and smoke the occassional Parliament as some sort of rebellion. I enjoy the occassional dirty martini and the more than occassional Amstel light. I am in love with Tom Brady and recently had a "dream" about Derek Jeter AND Alex Rodriguez which is strange since I am a staunch Red Sox fan....(I admit, I was smiling in my dream, I think....).

Parenting:
I would like to think of myself as a good parent. Anyone who says parenting is fun or rewarding 100% of the time is lying through their teeth...sorry, but its true. I sometimes say the dreaded "because I said so," use what is called "the goon hand" to remove my girls from different situations (I will explain the goon hand in a different blog) and have on occassion given them bowls of cereal for dinner in front of the TV when no one in the household can remotely deal with each other at a "formal sitdown." Oh well, I do try...sometimes too hard.

The hubby:
From my perspective, we have a healthy marriage....I will define "healthy" in a later blog I am sure. He seems happy...I guess :)

Here's the thing:
I work outside the home. I hope that does not seem controversial to anyone reading this blog. If this offends you in any way....stop reading...this might not be the place for you....

Why the blog:
Perhaps I am trying to compete with the teenage girls in the "hood" with their myspace pages. It's possible that I have subconcioius guilt over the fact that I spent my parents hard earned money on an English degree, that I really don't use. Sometimes when I am making the trek into work I think how funny my life is, mostly due to parenting, marriage, my hysterical friends....and I want to write it down. I think of myself as an aging Carrie Bradshaw wannabe....yeah...that works.
