Superstition

I am trying to plan a Super Bowl party. For those of you not in New England, New York or Arizona...or those of you that do not follow football, the New England Patriots will meet the NY Giants in Super Bowl XLII in Arizona this coming Sunday.

So my party plans are coming along slowly. I am having a hard time nailing down my guest list. There seems to be one big obstacle.

Superstition.

I looked on line for the most popular superstitions...

**When you speak of good luck, always knock on wood.

**Wild birds inside the house are considered bad luck.

**If the groom sees her in her wedding dress before the wedding is also considered bad luck and is believed to lead to an unhappy marriage.

**Placing a hat on a table is bad luck.

**Stepping on a crack in the sidewalk is believed to result in one's mother breaking her back.

**It is considered bad luck to open an umbrella indoors.

**In Western cultures, black cats are considered unlucky.

As much as I searched, I could not find the ones about...

**My mother & neighbor needing to be home for the Patriots in the Super Bowl or they will lose.

**Tom Brady (or any athlete) on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine is the kiss of death.....a jinx for his career.

**Mayor Tom Menino (of Boston) planning the logistics of a Super Bowl victory parade so that it will not interfere with the Presidential Primary Election voter turn out on Tuesday.

**Trish must wear her red, long sleeved Patriots throw back shirt or Tom Brady will not be able to lead the team to victory.

I am sure Coach Belichick, Tom Brady and the rest of the New England Patriots appreciate the support. They say we have the most passionate fans here in New England (most of them living right here on my street). I wonder if there is a picture of Trish in her red, long sleeved throw back shirt inside of each of their lockers at Gillette Stadium.....kinda like carring around a lucky rabbit's foot!

Being married to a hockey player and living in the hockey world that exsists in my house from August until April, I am willing to go along with many superstitions that get my son's hockey team rearing to go before a game...must wear the blue (home) shirts instead of the white ones....must listen to the "Tournament Tunes" CD in the locker room before a game.....

But I am just trying to plan on the number of chicken wings to make and the number of juice boxes to buy!

Why We Love....

At the pediatrician's office, I skimmed through Time magazine. The magazine featured articles on Why We Love. It was really really interesting. So much so, I almost slipped it into my purse when the nurse called me....but I resisted. But its certainly good enough to blog about.

The part that fascinated me (which I admit is easy to do), was about Phermones. How a woman's scent can send signals on whether she is ovulating or menstrating which would dictate whether or not a male would want to breed with her...catch my drift

"It's not just women who respond to such olfactory cues. One surprising study published last October in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior showed that strippers who are ovulating average $70 in tips per hour; those who are menstruating make $35; those who are not ovulating or menstruating make $50. Other studies suggest that men can react in more romantic ways to olfactory signals. In work conducted by Martie Haselton, an associate professor of psychology at UCLA, women report that when they're ovulating, their partners are more loving and attentive and, significantly, more jealous of other men. "The men are picking up on something in their partner's behavior that tells them to do more mate-guarding," Haselton says."

So the reason my husband doesn't want to be in the same house as me when I have my period is because of olfactory cues. What a relief!!! Here I thought it was because I throw wooden spoons, cans of tomatoes (whatever I can get my hands on) at him when he leaves the toilet seat up during "that time of the month."

Ashley Tisdale's nose, Chupacabra and "Keepin it Real" on Rona Lane

What do all these things have in common....

Things that I thought about at 12:00 am, 1:00 am, 2:00 am this morning as my 6 year old tossed and turned beside me.
Ashley Tisdale's nose....now this is hard core news truly. Thank goodness Yahoo had it as a top story, otherwise, I never would have known. SHARPAY HAS A NEW NOSE, NEWS AT 11!!!

"She wants fabulous,
That is her simple request,
All things fabulous,
Bigger and better and best, (in this case slightly smaller)
She needs something inspiring to help her get along,
She needs a little fabulous is that so wrong?"

What is a Chupacabra? Ask my daughter Cal. Its some kind of a bloodsucking Mexican monster that attacks goats. Featured on the discovery channel. And bad mommy T didn't catch her watching it until it was tooooooo late. Got a late night visit from her and have had Chupacabra conversations every 1/2 hour or so for the past 3 days. I finally told her that Big Foot could kick his @ss so not to worry..
"Mummy who is Big Foot"

The big dope in the white jacket below

The likeness is incredible

Which leads me to the next subject. "Keepin it Real" a phrase I stole from fellow blogger Alicia's unsuspecting husband. Between rants and fussin in her office (she has the patience of a saint), she shares her fun weekend experiences "keepin it real" with her neighbors, watching the Patriots with their projector, lighting a firepit and having a good ole time....... I realized, that blogger Kristine has come a long way to keep my hood "Real" as her husband has spent most of the fall and winter building a rink in the yard for the kids to skate. The picture above is last years rink (I am the albino sasquatch). This year, the rink comes with a carport turned home for little wanderers with indoor wood stove, TV and Adirondack chairs......to quote Sharpay "FABULOUS."

Boston Bruins Wives' Carnival

Everyone has their "thing"......
Some women like men that are tall......ahem......
Some women like men that work with their hands......
Me?
Hockey players. Professional or otherwise. Hubby is one.
So we took the kids to the Boston Bruins Wives' Carnival yesterday (blogging at 1:26am...can't sleep....too warm......unseasonably warm in New England tonight).
There were games to play against many of the Bruins. They were available (and very friendly) for autographs & photos.
My son was BESIDE himself......and so was his mother!
Pictured above is Stanley with Zedano Chara, Mark Stuart (cutie pie) and Shawn Thornton in the penalty box ('nuther cutie pie). ....but all young enough to be children of mine.
It was a great day in the Boston Garden!
