Why We Love....

At the pediatrician's office, I skimmed through Time magazine. The magazine featured articles on Why We Love. It was really really interesting. So much so, I almost slipped it into my purse when the nurse called me....but I resisted. But its certainly good enough to blog about.

The part that fascinated me (which I admit is easy to do), was about Phermones. How a woman's scent can send signals on whether she is ovulating or menstrating which would dictate whether or not a male would want to breed with her...catch my drift

"It's not just women who respond to such olfactory cues. One surprising study published last October in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior showed that strippers who are ovulating average $70 in tips per hour; those who are menstruating make $35; those who are not ovulating or menstruating make $50. Other studies suggest that men can react in more romantic ways to olfactory signals. In work conducted by Martie Haselton, an associate professor of psychology at UCLA, women report that when they're ovulating, their partners are more loving and attentive and, significantly, more jealous of other men. "The men are picking up on something in their partner's behavior that tells them to do more mate-guarding," Haselton says."

So the reason my husband doesn't want to be in the same house as me when I have my period is because of olfactory cues. What a relief!!! Here I thought it was because I throw wooden spoons, cans of tomatoes (whatever I can get my hands on) at him when he leaves the toilet seat up during "that time of the month."
